The Couple II (2022); 24" x 48"; oil on canvas
The Couple (2022) | Oil on Canvas
Painted by the artist, J . Bonegard in 2022, using oil on canvas.
It is the second in a series - https://youtu.be/5msIL8uoH3E
It measures 24" by 48".
In the words of the artist, J. Bonegard, “it is not always easy to initiate a work of art to commemorate an event, albeit a significant one, that of a wedding.”
According to the artist, “it is much easier to create a work of art out of deep emotion, than it is to paint in commemoration of a known event.”
In creating this piece, the artist was determined to create a timeless piece, one that is at par with those of the series, ‘Sweet Sixteen’, that were completed in 2021.
The intention was to create a work, the first in a series, that is not only abstract and geometric, but one that symbolizes the special relationship that can ever materialize in the life of humans — that of matrimony.
In the palette composite of this piece, are many of the colors symbolic of all one can ever wish for in a blessed union — love, peace, harmony, joy, and fruition, in all its manifestation.
Another dimension of this work signals unique sentiments that further define a blessed marriage — friendship, agreement, respect, understanding, forgiveness, and shared aspirations.
In completing this work of art, the artist was not only thinking of a befitting wedding present, but of a timeless creation, suitable as gifts for his daughters, as well as the many couples that constitute the artist’s extended family.
The impressive piece, the result of this memorable exercise, was no accident, but somewhat, spiritual in nature. Its origin was preceded by a period of contemplation, prayer and fasting, a regular occurrence, in the artist’s studio practice.
The timelessness of this masterpiece, is indeed assured.
